Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend any MDs, or NDs in the Greater Toronto Area? I'm struggling to find someone that seems qualified so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have gone to see a few different doctor's, but not of which I believe could appropriately help me. One integrative MD in downtown Toronto was pretty well intent on using Hydrogen Peroxide IV's and/or Vitamin C IV's which I felt was too premature for me to consider and wasn't really open/knowledgeable about other options.

Hi @lakesarecool

I think the lack of response may be a reflection of Ontario Dr's colouring in the lines.
That is: they don't know what to do for ME. I expect many conservatively follow what guidance is given.

My Dr (who is a nice guy and genuinely wants to help me and believes me when I tell him things--and isn't taking new patients)
has variously suggested: seeing a psychiatrist, pacing, gentle exercise, pain clinic. It's what he knows. As time has gone on over the years he has increasingly been suggesting various specialists. Unfortunately I'm at the point where going for an appointment downtown by public transit is a very major undertaking that sets me back afterward.

We had Dr Bested. Not that I tried to get an appointment but I suspect that waiting list was a doozy.
The ontario healthcare authorities need educating.

@Snowdrop Agreed about the Ontario healthcare! I saw my GP yesterday and showed her the recent IOM report with dx criteria for CFS. After glancing at it she said, "Well this would class more than 1/2 my patients as having CFS. It's too general and not helpful" I asked her, "Are you saying they have ALL those symptoms/signs"? She said, Yes, there are so many other illnesses these symptoms could fall into. Take Apnea for example" I told her that Apnea doesn't cause PEM.... but then I shut up b/c I didn't want to argue. We have a doctor shortage and regardless, I don't have the energy to look for a new one.
With OHIP, we are at the mercy of our doctors. Without her I won't get my referrals or meds. I like her, she's nice and tries to help me but she's so ill informed and does not know how to think outside of the box. :(

I have definitely found it troublesome to find the appropriate health in Ontario. I have gone to my primary doctor, a neurologist, a gastrointestinal doctor, completed an MRI, CT scan and have seen one of the top internists and the recurring theme appears to be it is all in your head and exercise more. I would not consider myself a severe case and I'm sorry to hear about your difficulties.

There was fortunately a recent slew of articles across Canadian Media thanks to the institute of medicine so hopefully it will help. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manit...iteria-for-chronic-fatigue-syndrome-1.2966039

I'm personally banking on Naturopaths obtaining their prescription medication rights which is expected to occur at some point this year. They are expensive, but at least they will be able to sit with you for an hour and are "incentivized" to listen and work with you on your case.

I didn't know about Naturopaths obtaining RX rights! Awesome!

An article including the IOM report did nothing to cause my GP to blink an eye. She totally burst my bubble :( I was so excited about how it may change our doctors opinion of both CFS AND of us, the patients. She glanced at the article and said what I quoted in the post above and also added that I need to exercise more and wanted to increase my SSRI to be a therapeutic dose for depression. But I'm not depressed!! I only agreed to take it one year ago with the hope it would diminish the dysautonimia, which it hasn't .
I hope my doctor isn't a reflection of how the others will respond to the IOM report. If so we're in trouble. They just don't listen!!!!!!!!!!

Everything will change in the minds of doctors in due time. It's no different than H. Pylori which took several years for doctors to accept bacteria was the cause over stress.

For updates on Naturopathy prescription rights you can refer to http://www.collegeofnaturopaths.on.ca/CONO/News/News_Releasts/Proclamation_Update.aspx

They are 99% going to get at least some significant rights as the Naturopathy Act already passed, it's a matter of working out the finer kinks rights now.

Today I made an appointment with Dr. Hui ( GP) in Toronto. He uses a mix of eastern and western protocols depending on what he thinks is needed....conventional medicine (OHIP will cover most blood tests, can write scripts for RX meds etc and will refer to specialists) but he also practices Chinese Medicine and will do IV infusions. It appears he thinks outside of the box which is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm cautiously optimistic!

Hi Charlie,

The proclamation passed: http://www.collegeofnaturopaths.on....spx?hkey=891dce4c-8bb5-4ddb-a94e-a4cd332b3ef9

The first exam for prescription rights is on Sunday, July 19th, 2015.
http://www.collegeofnaturopaths.on....spx?hkey=5f86ef74-d9b5-449f-9769-c78ad821d536

Unfortunately it looks like the prescription rights are really limited; look at table 3:
http://www.ontario.ca/laws/regulation/150168#BK27

Hopefully the list grows with time, but I don't see this being the huge help I hoped it would be.

@ScottTriGuy

I ended up cancelling that app't so I really don't have any experience to share with you.
I can say thought that the reason I didn't bother to go for the long drive/hotel stay is because I discovered he is all about using IV treatments including chelation, vitamin c and hydrogen peroxide so if you aren't interested in pursuing those he will not likely be a good fit for you. Also, he's quite a busy guy and I heard that although you will have a time session to speak with him, mostly you are with his assistants.
The thing is, if I was interested in pursing chelation, I could do that in my area.

Good luck to you!

I was wondering if anyone had any further luck finding a doctor in Ontario with some CFS knowledge?

If not does anyone know of any good doctors close to the border worth seeing?

Thank you.
