Great - how did you find them?

Astragalus acute makes me feel slightly ill but over time it tends to make me feel good energy wise.

Dang shen was in most of the mixes of tried from TCM and ive never had it alone to indicate whether it had any beneficial actions.

hawthorn Ive never tried and I would be interested in any observations you could afford me.

Schisandra Ive also never tried but ive heard some really impressive things about this general adaptogen.

Thanks.

Mountainroseherbs.com has some of the individual herbs you mention and Chineseherbsdirect.com has some of the combinations. Mountainroseherbs.com, however, usually does not sell herbs in pill form. However, I believe they sell a capsule making device and vegetarian capsules. And they sell in bulk so you could buy a pound of herb at a time.

They did not help me. I did not notice any change either positive or negative.
Regarding hawthorn I tried it two, three years ago for palpitations and a fast heartbeat but did not do much. Instead, I found Stephania T. very effective.
The best adaptogens I tried have been ashwagandha and reishi.
It's a question of trying and see what works for you.

I take Astragalus every morning. I take other supplements for the immune system and overall health like Maitake D Fraction drops. I have a good line up. :D

I'm taking astragalus membranaceus, the most commonly used species of astragalus, along with a bunch of others to treat systemic c.pneumonia. What I've learned about it from Buhner's book is:

*it strengthens the Th1 immune system and reduces the Th2
*increases CD4+ counts and balances the CD4 CD8 ratio
*is both antibacterial and antiviral
*particularly inhibits Coxsackie B
*increases the activity of SOD
*works best with echinacea and licorice root for immune purposes

Be aware that, like many herbs, it's diuretic and reduces blood pressure and heart rate. It's contraindicated in those with late stage Lyme as it can exacerbate autoimmune responses in that particular illness.

Also be aware that you need to take quite a bit for therapeutic purposes: Buhner recommends 3-6 T in powder form or 30-60 drops 4x a day in tincture. (I'm not taking that much... yet)

So far on my cocktail of herbs, I'm feeling good (but hard to know if it's that or the LDN I've been on for a month).

@Hanna, he now only recommends it for early lyme. But nothing is that black and white, i know of some late stage lyme sufferers who have benefited from astralagus. I am too thinking about giving it a try sometime later this year.

I take about 8 homemade astragalus capsules a day. They are the only thing that keep me from not having cold sores on both corners of my mouth 9 months out of the year. Before that nothing had any affect, including Valtrex. I don't notice any other affect from it though. I also take about 6 Schizandra capsules a day and don't notice any affect from that. But then I never notice anything from any of the many supplements I take and that I've tried.

Has anyone tried the specific combination of herbs contained in Myelophil preperations? Myelophil contains both Astragali Radix and Salviae Radix. I found this paper on use of Myelophil in Chronic Fatigue. Granted this is not specifically in ME, but I wonder if it could yield some benefit? Some research shows it may exhibit antioxidant properties and potentially reduce Glucorticoid Receptor Resistance, but its not entirely clear cut.

I came across these (obviously Chronic Fatigue, nonetheless it may still help some in our cases): http://cms.herbalgram.org/herbclip/380/pdfs/060691.pdf
