Hi Fredd! I never take more than 1mg at night of klonopin. Personally I haven't noticed any side effects in the years I've taken it, but then again I've never gone above 1mg a day.I've tried the newer sleep meds like sonata and ambien and they just aren't effective, they have a shorter half life also. Maybe it's the anti seizure effect that really helps my sleep. If you don't have a sleep disorder then maybe you might consider tapering off of it. I've heard a lot of severe complaints about it online.
Right now I am still trying to increase my slow wave sleep. There are some alternatives for RLS or PLMD like mirapex or zinc or magnesium
