Question re. Dr Bruce Rind's temperature chart

Is anyone familiar with Dr Bruce Rind's temperature chart? If so, I have two questions:

1) Is there really a difference between a mercury and digital thermometer for the purposes of this chart? We tried using a mercury one at one point, but they are challenging.

...and...

2) My daughter is mostly bedbound (can get up to go to bathroom and things like that), and she has noticed her temperature goes down when she is "active", so should she be in bed when she takes her temperature at 3, 6 & 9 hours after waking?

Thanks.
