I’m fatigued – is it ME/CFS?

The short answer to that question is “probably not.” The former name of the disease — “chronic fatigue syndrome” — was deeply misleading and incorrectly implied that fatigue was the main symptom of the disease.

ME/CFS is, in fact, a serious neuroimmune disease that affects multiple systems in the body and is far more than simple fatigue. More detail about the actual symptoms can be found by reviewing the official diagnostic definition of ME/CFS.

Everyday fatigue can be caused by many factors — including poor sleep, stress, inactivity, poor diet and certain medications. If none of those factors apply to you, it might be wise to consult a doctor. Many diseases can cause fatigue, some are easily detectable by simple tests and some can be treated successfully.
